Solar Power Gets Efficient and Affordable

With so much pressure on the power grids of nations around the world, and a growing popular push towards renewable energy – it pays to look at clean and cheap energy options for your home. There are ways to gather as well as save energy in every home – and have become popular through events such as Earth Hour. However the need to concentrate more on renewable energy sources really came under focus due to the Japanese nuclear crisis.

Renewable Energy As A Safe Alternative

Compared to traditional means of power generation such as nuclear and coal – renewable energy generation is clean and efficient. That is because they rely on naturally occurring weather elements such as wind, water or sunlight to generate electricity – and produce very little or no pollution in the process. Compared to coal fired power plants and nuclear reactors, the consequences of something going disastrously wrong are minuscule.

Solar power generation produces no pollutants in the energy production process. There are also no moving parts as there are in wind and water turbines, so it is a much better option in terms of the chances of a breakdown being almost zero. The complete solar setup is almost maintenance free, and is increasingly efficient thanks to continually improving technologies.

Solar Options At Home

The most exciting thing about solar energy options is that there is no need for you to wait for the government to fund and develop some large scale renewable energy power station for you to benefit from it. You can begin today – with simple and cheap applications around the home that will save you energy and money, decreasing your reliance on the power grid at the same time. If you have a pool at home, install a solar pool cover to save money and resources – it will retain not just the heat of the water, but improve rates of evaporation.

Installing solar panels at home for your own energy needs is a fantastic option for you to get started with energy and money savings. You can purchase solar panels that are ready to install and either do it yourself or pay an expert to do it for you. If you are keen for a weekend project, building diy home solar panels is a great thing to sink your teeth into. It’s not as hard as you may think, and you will save even more money compared to buying prefabricated panels.

Why You Should Use Pool Deck Pavers

If you have a new (or even old) in ground pool, you’ll want to surround it with a pool deck to provide the ultimate in comfort, convenience, and beauty. But what material should you use? Avoid the urge to try to save money by going with concrete. Instead, you should use concrete pavers around your pool. Why? Well, pool deck pavers have many advantages over their competitor materials. These advantages are as follows:

(1) Price. It should be said right off the bat that concrete pavers can be expensive to purchase and install, especially when compared to slab options like concrete. However, you need to keep in mind what you’re getting for you dollar – in other words, the value of the installation. You’ll probably never have to install a new pool deck again, as it won’t crack like concrete might, and it will add good value to the property value of your home. Thus, you are getting a good deal for you money in the end of the day.

(2) Strength. As mentioned above, these pavers projects won’t crack or break. Even if they do settle a little bit, it’s easy to pull up and reset the affected area. Concrete, on the other hand, can crack and bend. This is both unsightly and a safety hazard, as people running around near the pool may trip or stub their toe on this crack.

(3) Beauty. No material matches the design options you have with pavers, and no material can come close to matching the beuaty of the perfectly selected paver after it is installed. YOu can match the color of the pavers to your home decor, and nothing goes as well with the blue of your pool than these colored pavers. Concrete, grey and drab, is boring, and will do nothing to your backyard except provide some functional benefits. Pavers, however, give you the entire package.

Did You Know That There Are At Least Five Different Types Of Pool Shock Treatment?

Pool owners will know that they need to regularly ‘shock’ their pool water, particularly if the pool is being heavily used.  When pool shock is added to pool water, it causes a super-oxidation event that removes contaminants and combined chlorine compounds called chloramines from the pool water. If being used on a bromine pool, the shock treatment removes bromamines (combined bromine compounds) from the water and also helps to release of the bromine sanitizer for use.  When you buy pool chemcials for your pool it’s good to know that there are at least five different types pool shock on the market.   Some of the most popular are described below.

Non-chlorine shock treatment – Pool shock treatments that do not contain chlorine are often referred to as “chlorine free” shock or “safety shock”  as they do not raise chlorine levels significantly and swimmers can return to the pool quickly after treatment. The active pool chemical used is potassium monopersulfate, a strong oxidizing agent.

Calcium hypochlorite – This is one of the most popular chlorine shock treatments on the market and is generally sold in granular form. It requires pre-dissolving before being broadcast over the pool water. In pool startup situations or for messy pools, concentrations of available chlorine of above 70% are sometimes needed.

Sodium hypochlorite – Normally sold in liquid form, this product does not require any advanced preparation. It is quite often used in pools that have surfaces that are sensitive to chlorine bleaching. As the product is in liquid form, there is little danger that undissolved granules come into contact with any pool surfaces and damage them.

Sodium dichlor – This pool shock is normally sold in stabilized form. Cyanuric acid is one of the most commonly used stabilizing agents. Chlorine needs to be stabilized to increase its lifespan, particularly in pools that receive a lot of sunlight and are located in warmer temperatures.

Lithium hypochlorite – This product is similar to soduim dichor (but typically higher priced) and is often used for vinyl pools.  The product is not stabilized so will not contribute to any build up of cyanuric acid in the water.
